AFTER-SCHOOL COURSES

We now offer regular after-school programming classes in school! We had a trial program at the school of Kilchberg during the autumn semester of 2023, which was a success.

Read more about it in our instructor’s testimonial ↓

The course that we taught at the school of Kilchberg during the autumn semester 2023 allowed us to interact with a group of 8 young girls on a weekly basis, creating a safe space where learning and self-expression were encouraged. As the main organiser and teacher, I could witness the steady progress of the girls who now grasp important programming concepts, such as functions, variables, and for-loops (all of that at the age of 10, this is truly impressive!). But most importantly, we were able in this course to foster a common interest for technology and logical thinking, and crucially experience and interact with technical systems such the imagiCharm (a LED display) and the Lego Mindstorms robots.

Characteristic of today’s society, the girls present in this group had different familial backgrounds and not the same familiarity with technology outside of school. Following one of our core mission at GirlsCodeToo, we could empower these girls to discover the world of technology, and hopefully enlarge their vocational interests in a world where women are still underrepresented in technical and scientifical fields.

TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS

TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS (AGE 12-16)
TEEN SERIES (AGE 14-18)

Girl are encouraged to innovate by learning a professional programming language, and starting their own creative tech journey in a series of workshops. With the support of motivated and inspiring university students, girls will learn fundamental programming skills and get a chance to apply them to real-life projects.

These sessions are geared towards girls looking to acquire and practice new tech skills. Participants will also learn soft skills such as pitching ideas, business strategies and digital media marketing.

WORKSHOPS

WEB DESIGN

This Technology Lab series will focus on Website Building, Design, Publication and everything else you need to launch your own website.

Including HTMP, CSS and javaScript basics.

PYTHON

There are tens of thousands of Python websites on the internet, it’s easy to learn and powerful to work with.  Python is a popular language with both beginners and seasoned developers.

Many of today’s most successful tech companies, such as Google, Instagram, Spotify, Netflix, Uber and Pinterests are choosing Python for the back-end of their website.

Robotics

First Lego League – All Girls Teams

Join forces with other budding inventors and engineers to compete in the 2022 First Lego League Tournaments.

MOBILE APP

Girls will design, build and programm their own mobile app.

SPECIAL EVENTS

A variety of Special Events offered to girls and young women. Ranging from inspiring Tech Talks to tailored workshops to gain real life skills.

One of our super cool special events is the Dance and Robotics Camp, happening twice a year.

Read more about it in our instructor’s testimonial ↓

The Robotics and Dance camp gives girls a unique experience to discover coding and robotics in a creative setting. We spend the week learning to build and code the robots to ultimately design a robot dance choreography. Teaching at a camp is wonderful as it allows us instructors to create a rapport with the girls and we get to share with them our experiences in tech and engineering. We get to see a diverse group of young girls learn new skills and gain confidence in trying, failing and creating. In this course, we promote working together and sharing ideas. We always finish the week strong with a presentation of the robot choreography where the girls can see the outcome of their hard work and creativity. My favorite part in teaching this course is seeing them realize that technology can be applied to any field and has endless possibilities.
